Planning Inspiration
My inspiration came from Judith Leyster art piece¨Madness for Tulip" and Alfred Parson artwork¨Rosa Damascena rubrotincta¨ The style used in Judith piece is Baroque, and Alfred style is Naturalism but both themes focus on flower painting. While doing my research for my block print, and came across Judith art piece I discovered she was a dutch artist who did all types of artwork, but mostly still life, and portraits but did not do religious themes. This is when I got the idea, of doing something with religion and Nature. Although because Judith artwork mostly included people, I needed to choose another artist. Which was when I came across Alfred Parson, who was a garden designer, that exposed me to all types of flower painting he's done. Although my idea did come Jesus Crown of Thrown. I played around with the idea of religion and flowers because every Saturday I work at Bluemels which is a Garden and landscaping business. Working there had inspired me to do a block print based on flowers. I decided to, combine my idea with religion since religion has always been a big impact on my life. What drew me towards choosing these artists was the focus of the flowers in the center and the details in the pedals. |

Planning Sketches
This was my first sketch. I was just doodling a flower because my first theme was Nature. I wanted to see how I was going to shape it and what I wanted to do. I was hoping sketching would help me explore ideas on what I wanted to do with the flowers. In the corners I was debating which type of stems I wanted to use, if open spread out ones with thorns or just thin lines. There are erased marks because, I wanted to see how it would look with repetitive pattern of stems all over but it did not convince me, because to much space would be shown.
